This is understandable, because the regulation (\u201cGDPR\u201d) affects almost all website owners and requires them to take certain steps to make their sites compliant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there are a lot of half-truths circulating in online forums and opinion columns. This makes it tough to separate fact from fiction and keep track of what you actually need to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no such thing as a \u201csimple solution\u201d because providers like Jimdo are not legally permitted to offer you legal advice. On the one hand, every single case (and website) is different. The GDPR understands personal data as (among other things):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>First name and last name<\/li><li>Address<\/li><li>Email address<\/li><li>Birthdays<\/li><li>Bank accounts<\/li><li>Location data<\/li><li>IP addresses<\/li><li>Cookie ID<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This definition means that virtually all website owners and online shop owners have to review their site and adapt it, where necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A website is affected by the GDPR if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>IP addresses of website visitors are transmitted\/stored<\/li><li>There\u2019s a comment function where you can input an email address<\/li><li>Visitors can comment<\/li><li>There\u2019s a contact form<\/li><li>There\u2019s a newsletter subscription<\/li><li>There\u2019s an online service provided via a subscription model<\/li><li>The behavior of visitors is analyzed through tracking and cookies<\/li><li>It uses social media plugins that don\u2019t offer a two-click solution to limit tracking<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_do_I_find_out_what_data_my_site_is_collecting\"><\/span>How do I find out what data my site is collecting?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following questions can help you figure out what data you are collecting\u2014perhaps without even realizing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What data do I collect\/process\/use on my website?<\/li><li>In which way do I collect this data?<\/li><li>Do I have a contact form? Guestbook? Blog?<\/li><li>Do I use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimdo.com/blog\/google-analytics-basic-metrics-and-reports\/\">Google Analytics<\/a> or another statistics tool on my site?
